Pastoral Plan Objectives for
St. Ursula (Chatham)

On Pentecost Sunday, 2004, Bishop Ronald P. Fabbro, C.S.B. promulgated a Pastoral Plan for the Diocese of London. In the months that followed, each parish, deanery and diocesan office developed concrete and specific five-year objectives. 1. As living signs of Christ's presence, we will respond to the call to personal holiness given to all by committing ourselves to opportunities for ongoing conversion and spiritual renewal.
1. Identify barriers,physical, cultural or situational, that inhibit the development of personal holiness and spiritual renewal
2. Implement strategies that will assist in overcoming the identified barriers that inhibit personal holiness and spiritual renewal.
3. Educate the community in the lives of the saints, martyrs and other holy people.
4. Provide opportunities for the community of St. Ursula÷s to experience a variety of prayer forms.
5. Provide a mission for students and staff of Georges P. Vanier and St. Ursula÷s Schools
6. Provide a resource that will inform, educate and encourage ongoing conversion, personal holiness and spiritual renewal.
7. Provide a yearly Lenten Mission for the parish community.
2. Called by Christ, we will evangelize through the clear proclamation of the Gospel and the constant teaching of the Catholic faith, assuring that such proclamation and teaching is linked to the life experience of the people.
1. Establish a team/ministry to research and encourage active participation in ecumenical activities.
2. Establish an evangelization team/ministry.
3. Provide a program(s) designed to deepen parishioner÷s understanding of their Catholic faith.
4. Increase annually by 10% the number of people participating in the RCIA
5. Increase annually by 10% the number of young people participating in parish-based youth programs.
3. With our sights set on the mission of Jesus, we will minister with justice and compassion to the wounded, the searching, the entrapped, and those in material and spiritual need.
1. Promote awareness of needs within the community and provide support to the parish groups/ministries who strive to meet those needs.
2. Establish a bereavement ministry.
3. Establish a social justice committee.
4. As the Body of Christ, formed by word and sacrament, we will make provision for meaningful liturgical celebrations in our parish communities to ensure full, conscious, and active participation by all.
1. Establish a parish Liturgical Commission.
2. Evaluate all aspects of liturgical practice within the parish and make recommendations for change as required.
3. Promote and encourage the active participation of parish youth in all aspects of the liturgical life and ministry of the community.
4. Establish a direct link between the parish liturgy commission and the liturgy committees established at each of our parish schools.
5. Inviting all to co-responsible ministry, we will encourage and support the ongoing formation of laity, religious, and ordained.
1. To ensure that all persons involved in parish liturgical ministry reach personal excellence by developing policies for recruitment, training and ongoing formation.
2. Provide for the pastoral team and staff, yearly opportunities for faith formation and professional development.
3. Establish and maintain a database identifying all parishioners and their areas of skill and expertise.
4. Establish an annual meeting of all parish ministries and committees to share initiatives and celebrate accomplishments.
6. Imitating Christ the servant-leader, we will employ and model governance practices at all levels that seek to: meet the needs of Godís people, support the Churchís mission, ensure appropriate participation in decision-making by the laity, religious and ordained, uphold Gospel stewardship, and promote accountability and transparency.

2. Develop a closer affiliation between the Finance Council and the Parish Advisory Board.
